“Go-To” Green Smoothie

“Go-To” Green Smoothie

My kids absolutely love their green leafy veggies!….said no mom ever!

Okay, I guess there are a few kids out there who really do love them. But not mine!

One thing I’ve learned about food and kids is, it’s all in how you present it. If I put a heaping pile of sautéed spinach on my kids’ dinner plates, I’m willing to bet I’ll get a few funny faces and it won’t get eaten. But have you ever tried blending spinach into a smoothie? It becomes almost tasteless. So kids can enjoy a “treat” while still getting the health benefits of some dark, leafy greens! Mom win!

Smoothies are my favorite way to pack nutrients into my kids. It’s also a great way to get them involved in the kitchen. Let them pick out some ingredients they’d like to try or help turn on the blender. With countless flavor combinations and visual appeal, it’s usually pretty easy to get kids to try a smoothie.

In my house, we utilize smoothies for breakfast, lunch , and dinner. Yes…I said dinner. Because sometimes that’s all my three year old wants, and guess who’s not arguing with a three year old?…Me! Plus, I know what I put into the smoothie not only tastes great, but is healthy as well. So, sure…go ahead! Smoothies are perfectly acceptable for dinner!

My “Go-To” Green Smoothie is the one we make most often. My kids ask for it all the time! And it’s just as good for adults too. It’s sweet and creamy, packed with vitamins and minerals, and most importantly, beautifully green!

Here’s what you’ll need:

  • One banana (freeze the banana ahead of time to make it extra creamy)
  • About 1/2 cup of green grapes
  • About a cup of raw spinach (I just grab a big handful)
  • 1 tbsp of almond butter (or any nut butter of your choice)
  • 1 tbsp organic honey
  • 1 scoop Vital Proteins Collagen Peptides
  • 1 cup coconut milk (or any other milk)
  • a little ice

It can’t get any easier. Place all of the ingredients in a blender, and viola!

Mom tip:

I’ve been adding Vital Proteins Collagen Peptides to everything lately. Collagen has some amazing benefits which support healthy skin, hair, nail, and joints. The powder is flavorless, can be blended into anything, hot or cold, and adds 10g of protein per scoop. It’s like my secret weapon…

Getting our nutrients in, doesn’t have to be boring! I hope this inspires you to create some of your own unique combinations! Thanks for reading, and stay tuned for more smoothie recipes to come!
